Rebranding the Danish churches abroad into a meaningful movement for all Danes
The Challenge
De Danske Sømands- og Udlandskirker(Danish Seaman’s and Overseas Churches) needed the support of politicians, foundations, and ordinary Danes.
Yet outside the inner circle, few truly understood the value the organisation brings to Danish society.
The churches were seen as relevant mainly to Danes living abroad — those who used them — rather than as something that mattered to Denmark as a whole.
The Solution
We renamed the organisation Den Danske Kirke I Udlandet (The Danish Church Abroad) — a clear and inclusive name that unites both sømandskirker and udlandskirker under one identity. We crafted a new core story that captures the church’s emotional and cultural significance for Danes abroad. And we developed a modern visual identity that truly reflects the energy, warmth, and community found in their churches around the world.
The groundwork is now in place for Den Danske Kirke i Udlandet to grow into a meaningful movement for all Danes — both at home and abroad.
